Measuring Relevance and Popularity

In the development of search engine systems, there are two critical components made up the majority of search functionality Relevance and Popularity.

Relevance:
This can be described as how much is the content relevant or matched to the document returned on users search query (keywords) from search engines.

Popularity:
This can be measured as what are the search terms are found in the website areas like in the Title tags, Meta tags, Heading tags and the website content. This will measure the quality of the website page.
How many back links the website has from other websites like (.edu, .org, and .gov…).

Information that Search Engines Can Trust
There are two kinds of information about a given site. Search engines index website structure and page contents.

  • Attributes of the page/site
  • Descriptive about that site/page

The websites which have back links from very popular, important and trust worthy websites like News websites like CNN.com ,Press Release (PR) websites and websites with extensions like .gov, .edu, and .org have greater rankings positions as you will get page rank from their websites.
